1. TrueNorth licensing status
TrueNorth Roadside Rescue operates as a licensed and insured professional towing service in Ontario. Ontario requires tow operators and tow truck drivers who provide towing services to hold the applicable provincial certificates.
Because operating and driver certificates are regulated records that may be renewed or updated, current certificate identifiers should be verified from the dispatched tow truck, applicable consent documentation or invoice, or directly with TrueNorth before service when required.
2. Ontario regulatory framework
Towing in Ontario is regulated under the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act, 2021 (TSSEA) and its regulations. The framework requires certification and establishes conduct, safety, consent, rate, invoice and consumer-protection obligations for tow operators and drivers.
Ontario also requires tow operators to meet applicable commercial vehicle safety requirements and, where required, maintain a valid Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration (CVOR) or National Safety Certificate framework.
3. Certificate and identification information
Ontario requires tow operators to display the company name and applicable certificate number on tow trucks and to include required identifying information on consent forms and invoices. A tow truck driver must also be able to present the driver's certificate when required by law.

4. Insurance and safety requirements
Ontario's tow-operator certification framework includes commercial-vehicle safety obligations and minimum insurance requirements. The provincial application requirements currently specify at least $2 million in liability coverage for personal injury/death and property loss or damage for tow operators.
TrueNorth's site-wide statement that it is licensed and insured is intended to communicate its operating status, not to replace the official certificate, insurance document or other evidence that may be required for a specific transaction.
5. Ontario towing consumer rights
Ontario towing customers have statutory rights that may include, depending on the circumstances:
- consenting to a tow unless an authorized exception applies;
- receiving required rate, estimate and service information;
- receiving an invoice with the information required by law;
- accessing personal property in the vehicle as permitted by law; and
- dealing with certified tow operators and drivers who follow the provincial code of conduct.
Police-directed towing, restricted tow zones and other regulated situations can have different rules.
